Wesley College

Wesley College is a provider of theological education for the Methodist Church and an important ecumenical provider for the wider Church and region. The College has the coat of arms over the main entrance with the motto “Quo vadis sequimur” (‘Where you lead we will follow’) which references John Wesley and his brother Charles, largely credited with founding the Methodist movement.

John Wesley first came to Bristol in 1739, and because the churches were closed to him had to preach in the open air to the Colliers of Kingswood. His popularity spread and on a small patch of land in the ‘Horsefair’, ‘the New Room’ was built which is known by Methodists throughout the world. There are many things to see there and at his house No. 5 Charles Street, Bristol which has been restored with No. 4 into the Charles Wesley heritage Centre. Visitors to Bristol may also be interested to visit the restored Georgian House which is open to the public. The link is below.

Wesley College is about a mile away which is about a 20 minute walk.
